The Bike School is a paid internship program that equips high school students in Chattanooga’s Oak Grove neighborhood with hands-on job training in bike mechanics and retail. The goal of the program is to provide meaningful early work experience in a supportive, community-focused environment.

Internships take place at Two Bikes Chattanooga, located at 1810 E. Main Street. Students work two days a week, averaging about 10 hours per week, and earn $15 per hour throughout the four-month program.

During the internship, students learn foundational bicycle maintenance and repair, build customer service skills, and get hands-on experience using point-of-sale software in a functioning retail shop.

  • To apply, you need to be a current high school student living in Chattanooga. We especially encourage students who live near our shop in the Oak Grove neighborhood to apply. You don’t need any bike experience—just a willingness to learn and show up ready to work.

  • No experience needed! The Bike School is designed to teach you everything from the ground up. Whether you've never held a wrench or already tinker with bikes at home, we'll meet you where you are and help you grow your skills.

  • You must be an active high school student to join The Bike School. That means you should currently be enrolled in high school at the time of your application and throughout the internship period.Item description

  • The Bike School is based in the Oak Grove neighborhood at 1810 E Main Street, Chattanooga, TN. Students will need to arrange their own transportation to and from the shop, whether that’s by foot, bike, car, or bus.

  • Interns work part-time hours during the school year. Shifts are held:

    • Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM

    • Saturday from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM
You don’t have to be available every day, but we expect you to commit to a consistent schedule.

  • All students in The Bike School earn $15 per hour, and paychecks are issued every other week on Fridays.

  • We understand students have busy schedules. To participate, you must be able to work at least two days per week and we prefer that students work two Saturdays per month.

  • We accept applications on a rolling basis and hire twice a year—once in the spring and once in the fall. After you submit your application, you’ll receive a confirmation email. If selected, we’ll reach out before the next internship session begins to schedule an interview or orientation.
